Funding for the digital transformation and modernisation of local authorities that are part of the Smart Tourism Destinations (DTI, Spanish acronym) Network

Guadalajara City Council was awarded funding under the “Programme for the digital transformation and modernisation of local authorities forming part of the Smart Tourist Destinations Network”, promoted by SEGITTUR, in accordance with Order ICT/1527/2021, of 30 December, which approves the regulatory framework for the aforesaid grant programme and launches the call for applications for the 2021 financial year, within the framework of the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

Under this call for funding, 90% of the total project cost is financed by the European Union, through the Next Generation EU Funds and the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan; the remaining 10% is covered by the Municipality’s own funds.

Projects carried out with funding support

A total of 10 projects have been included in this grant scheme:

  1. Optimisation of the tourism section of the municipal website.
  2. Improvements to accessibility services at the Tourist Information Office.
  3. Establishment of a Tourist Information Office.
  4. Geolocation of QR codes.
  5. Improving public services through the introduction of technological tools for communication with residents and visitors.
  6. Enhancing and improving resource visualisation technologies.
  7. Planning and coordination in the development of new tourism products (gamification).
  8. Improvements and expansion of the Wi-Fi service.
  9. Monitoring of key points of interest.
  10. Provision of management tools to the destination.

Key strategic priorities

  • To make it easier for tourists to access the destination from their home country
  • To facilitate communication and access to resources and services for tourists at their destination
  • To improve the management of the impact of tourism on the destination
  • Improving public governance through the use of new technologies 

Key objectives

  1. Focus on product creation and promotion at the destination.
  2. Improving the visitor experience at the destination.
  3. Participatory and intelligence-led management to ensure a smooth transition and evolution towards the Smart Tourism Destinations (DTI, Spanish acronym) model.
  4. Sustainability as a key differentiator.
  5. Tourism partnerships with local destinations.
  6. Alignment with the SDGs, the EU Recovery and Resilience Plan and the Spanish Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan (PRTR, Spanish).acronym).

"Guadalajara: A Smart Tourist Destination" Research Chair

As part of our commitment to advancing Guadalajara as a Smart Tourism Destination, in 2021, a collaboration agreement was signed with the University of Alcalá for an initial two-year period, renewable, aimed at establishing the “Guadalajara DTI” Research Chair. This initiative focuses on training, research, the transfer of research findings and scientific dissemination in the fields of municipal tourism governance, innovation and the sustainability of Guadalajara as a tourist destination.
